I think this pattern is really cute. It has a lot of cute details, like the slanted darts on the bodice (that you can’t see) and the pleats on the skirt (that you can’t see) and the bow in front (that covers all the other stuff). The fabric that they got was a little flimsy, but we lined it with a cotton fabric that was stiffer and heavier and gave it some body. The color I’m not too sure about. It’s definitely not my color, but some people look great in it. The wearer of this is polynesian, so she looks pretty good in it. But for a wedding, hmmmm...... can’t picture it.

I was so excited about it because the colors were so bright and fun. I especially love the backing fabric. But....once I started quilting it, I had one frustration after another. The thread kept breaking, so I changed the needle. It still kept breaking, so I used a different size needle. It still kept breaking, so I ordered special machine quilting needles. It still kept breaking. Then the tension on the bobbin went haywire and I ended up unpicking a section, adjusting the tension and still the thread kept breaking. I cleaned the machine, oiled it sprayed it with silicone, changed the needle, used a different bobbin and different thread, and finally it started sewing a little better. The thread still broke a few times, but I managed to finish it. The machine worked great when I put the binding on and I have had no trouble since. I wish I knew what it was so I can avoid the problems next time I have to make a quilt (which is soon). I blame it on the cheap Walmart batting for lack of anything else to blame it on. It did turn out cute though.

It has a lot of character, but it is very dark. Why they made the doors dark too, I do not know, but they are soooooo much better with a coat of white paint. The hallway no longer feels like a black hole, you can see that there is actually a door there!

I had them in a ziplock bag where they got all tangled, and it wasn’t working. So for a while I had them hanging on a couple of nails in the wall that were left over from previous occupants and the family thought I was just weird. I have seen this idea floating around on different blogs and such and thought it would be the perfect thing. I got some cool fabric, hooks and spray paint, used an old frame and voila! So much better.

The red, black and white one went to Lindsey and her baby, Jaxon. I’ve had the red and black print for a while and knew it would be perfect for Lindsey since she is a Kahuku graduate and those are their colors!
